Older Brent homes often have heating systems that have been altered several times over their lifetime. In 1930s properties around Kingsbury and Preston, we regularly come across replacement radiators, added circuits and newer boilers connected to sections of older pipework. Around Willesden, Harlesden and Kilburn, we also see established systems that have been modified during refurbishments while much of the original heating remains.
That mix matters when we are cleaning a system. An apparently modern boiler does not tell us what is happening throughout the rest of the circuit. We regularly find newer components alongside decades-old radiators and pipework, with contamination built up in areas where circulation has been restricted.
The housing history across Brent reflects this variety, with significant Victorian and Edwardian development alongside large areas of 1920s and 1930s housing. That variety is something we see reflected in the heating systems we work on.
