Removing Sludge from Victorian Radiator Systems

When we work on older Victorian properties around Camden, one thing we notice regularly is how much the heating system has changed over the years. It is common to find newer boilers connected to older radiators, with sections of pipework and valves dating from different stages of the property’s history.

We see this particularly in homes around Kentish Town and Camden Town, where heating systems have often been adapted alongside extensions, refurbishments or changes to the layout.

In some systems, those older components are still working perfectly well. In others, years of use have left corrosion deposits inside the radiators and pipework. We can often see the effects when checking how evenly the radiators heat or looking at the condition of the system water.

Once clean, the system can be refilled with suitable corrosion protection, with magnetic filtration considered where appropriate.
