Before we suggest a powerflush, we check the system properly rather than taking the symptom at face value. That means testing the pump, checking the valves are opening and closing as they should, and looking at whether the radiators are balanced correctly so water’s distributed properly across the system.
We’ll also check the state of the system water itself, sometimes by draining a small sample from a radiator to see how dark or gritty it comes out.
We’ve flushed systems in Wood Green HMOs where the water’s come out almost black, and we’ve also walked into jobs where the actual fault turned out to be a stuck zone valve, not sludge at all. Confirming the cause first means we’re not charging someone for a flush that won’t fix anything.
